On August 18, 2017, EPCOR
filed a “water” rate case with the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC), requesting
full consolidation of its 11 water districts. Under full consolidation, all
water customers will benefit from predictable, uniform rate structures (which
reduce rate shock and customer confusion), reduced regulatory expenses, and
increased operating efficiencies.
The proposal requests consolidation
be phased in over five years similar to the recent approved wastewater rate
case. The average Verrado customer using
7,000 gallons of water a month is currently paying $45.93/month. If consolidation is approved, Verrado residents
would see a reduction of $44.95 over five years.
Hearings begin in May, with a projected decision by September or October. The Utilities Council will begin a letter writing campaign starting in March to the ACC advocating full consolidation of EPCOR water districts. Signing Fairs for Verrado and Victory residents will be held March 17 and April 21 from 8 am – 12 pm outside of EBB + FLOW COFFEE COMPANY.

ReplyDeleteI can tell you for sure had I known, in advance of putting money down on my house here in Verrado, of the high, no outrageously high water rates, we would not be living in Verrado. It is not that we can't afford it it is the principle of the matter. We are getting ripped off on the sewer end, obviously, but the water rates as well. My last water district was liberty. We had grass in back and a pool, with a 1" meter, and our highest bill ever was $114 a month. Obviously water in the desert is precious, but Epcor makes one think they are sending gold in our pipes an pumping our silver to the sewer.
